Pregnancy Related Low Back and Pelvic Pain

During the course of pregnancy, women may normally experience muscular backache. However, low back pain or pelvic pain is not ‘normal’.  The cause of pain can be established through a physiotherapy assessment.

Treatment may be as simple as correcting postural alignment to reduce strain on ligaments or introducing a SIJ belt and specific exercises to increase pelvic stability. Women also complain of lower back pain when they return to sport after pregnancy. This is often a result of having insufficient lumbopelvic stability.

Body Logic Physiotherapy offers assessments for exercise readiness and prescribes exercises to improve deep core stability prior to a return to activity.
