Chronic Pain
Chronic pain refers to pathological, amplified pain than persists longer than an expected tissue healing time. There is a growing research base into the understanding and management of chronic pain. It has been found to be influenced by lifestyle factors, stress, anxiety, fear, catastrophizing, pain beliefs and depression.
People who suffer with chronic pain tend to develop maladaptive patterns of movement and behaviour. Successful evidence based treatment methods like classification based cognitive functional therapy for chronic low back back pain can be used to combat maladaptive patterns, deal with barriers to recovery and normalise movement behaviour and function.
Chronic pain treatment is always a collaborative process between the physiotherapist and the patient to achieve set goals.
